Which WoW Class Should You Choose

WoW Class Guide – What should you choose

Which class would fit you like a glove, and which class would fit you like a gnome's shoe would fit a tauren warrior?

There are 3 main functions a class could have. These are Damage, Tank and Healer. Depending on what you would like to do once you get to level 80 you should decide which is more important to you.

Here's what you can expect from different classes:

Warrior

Strengths:

Can wear heavy armor (mail or plate from level 40).
Great for tanking when using protection spec.
Can use just about any weapon
Can duel wield or use two-handed weapons for huge damage.

Weaknesses:

Melee damage is lower than certain other classes.
Very dependent on equipment.
Has to depend on healing of other classes.
Not great for fighting classes with ranged damage such as casters or hunters.
Depends on rage.

Paladin

Strengths:

Healing abilities. Sometimes you almost have to kill a paladin 3 times if you give him a gap to heal.
Can tank, heal or do damage depending on your talent spec.
Paladin's get their own class mount.
Doesn't depend on rage.
Has a lot of buffs. These make a huge difference and makes you immune to certain attacks for short periods of time.
Ability to resurrect other players.

Weaknesses:

Lacks overall damage that other classes have.
You need to choose between healing and tanking instead of combining them.
Constant need to manage blessings, seals and auras.

Hunter

Strengths:

Pet that fights for you and acts as a mini-tank.
Ability to track enemies.
Traps are great for pvp.
Easy to level solo.
Great ranged damage.
Can wear mail armor from level 40
Uses a great amount of weapons.

Weaknesses:

Weak in close ranged combat due to few melee abilities.
Pets can pull monsters if you don't switch them to passive.
Constant need to refill ammo and feed pet can waste time while leveling.

Rogue

Strengths:

Best DPS class. Does tons of damage quickly when played right.
Has lock picking ability.
Stealth mode gives you a whole new edge on other classes and gets you out of trouble while leveling.
Dual wield ability.
Great for crowd control.

Weaknesses:

Can't take much damage due to leather armor.
Limited weapon choices. At level 80 daggers are pretty much the best.
Long waiting periods for cooldowns.
One of the harder classes to use for pvp.

Priest

Strengths:

Strong defensive spells like damage absorbing bubble.
Best healing class in wow.
Highly sought after so you won't have trouble getting a raid group.

Weaknesses:

Light armor, only uses cloth.
You have to choose between damage or healing instead of combining them.

Death Knight

Strengths:

Ability to tank.
Self heals while doing damage.
Can summon army of ghouls in unholy spec.
Uses heavy armor.
Can summon minion.
Ability to summon class mounts.

Weaknesses:

Overrated and sometimes boring to play.
You need to have a level 55 or higher character to create a Death Knight.

Shaman

Strengths:

Ability to use mail armor (from level 40)
Good for healing.
Combo of caster and melee class. This is good when crossing over from one type to the other.
Self ressurect ability.
Can use shields.

Weaknesses:

Totems need to be managed constantly.
Can only duel wield when going into enchacement tree.
Can't use two-handed weapons.

Mage

Strengths:

Best caster for dps.
Great ranged attacks.
Good for crowd control.
Can open portals.
Huge area damages.
Summons own food and drink, this is a great feature to have when leveling.
Easy to level up solo.

Weaknesses:

Can't heal.
Doesn't take much damage, only wears cloth armor.
Most damage spells only do damage over time.
In raids monster often go for mages because of their high dps.

Warlock

Strengths:

Various pets. Who deosn't love pets??
Class specific mount.
Great for debuffs or curses or whatever you call them.
Ability to summon group members.
Good crowd control abilities.

Weaknesses:

Can't take much damage because of cloth armor.
Hard to play.
Different pets suit different situations.

Druid

Strengths:

Can change to different animal forms (and a tree).
Probably the most flexible class, can tank, heal or deal damage.
Has travel form (same speed as a level 20 mount).
Good for soloing.
High demand for raids because of healing/tanking abilities.
Good for crowd control, can entangle enemies in roots.

Weaknesses:

More of a well rounded class, so its not exceptionally good at doing just one thing.
Hard class to master.
Switching between animal forms can be time consuming..
Can only wear cloth and leather armor.

Hopefully this has helped you to decide which class would suit you best. Remember that every class can be great, and any class is able to beat another one depending on the player's skill.
